ダグラス マーサリス　Douglas Eric Marsalis

ダグラスはアメリカの南部、ルイジアナ州の出身で、2005年に高知に来て以来、英語を教えています。ALTとして3年間、高知市の外国語活動特認校のLIとして2年間勤務した後、アメリカ南部料理を提供するカフェの立ち上げ、そして英会話スクールも始めました。

大学では生物学、科学を専攻。また、救急救命士の資格も持っていました。そして、科学の講師を務めたり、動物病院の仕事の経験もあり、武術の鍛錬も数年行って来ました。

趣味は、庭仕事、料理、釣り、映画鑑賞、音楽鑑賞、バイクのツーリング、そして、大切な家族と時間を過ごすことです。

Douglas came from the southern state of Louisiana in America and has been teaching English in Japan since 2005. Originally teaching on the JET Programme (http://jetprogramme.org/en/) and as a language instructor through the Kochi Board of Education, he later opened his own cafe serving southern style foods and drinks and also began teaching English conversation classes.

He has a degree in Biology and Chemistry along with a certification as an Emergency Medical Technician. He has also taught in the science and veterinary medical fields along with martial arts for many years.

His interests include gardening, cooking, fishing, watching movies, listening to music, motorcycle touring and spending time with his family.

Why is Douglas a great teacher?

和美　マーサリス　Kazumi Marsalis

高知県　土佐郡土佐町出身。大自然の中で育ちました。ダグラスをサポートすべく、チームティーチング、個人レッスンとも5年ほどの講師歴。愛媛大学では、看護学を専攻。看護師と保健師の資格を持っています。小学生の時に見た、世界ふしぎ発見!で海外で働くことを夢見、中学から英語を猛勉強し始めました。しかし英会話ができるようになったのは２０代半ば頃から。現在まで30年以上、英語を勉強し続け、日々精進しております。

また、自閉症、知的障害と言われている息子の子育ての中で、同じような悩みをもつ家族と出会ったり、障害の有無にかかわらず、全ての子どもたちが生き生きと暮らせる世界を目指す、子育て支援グループ　Hug-Me〜はぐくみ〜を立ち上げました。同じ志を持つママたちと高知市を中心に、一緒に活動しています。

趣味は、大切な家族と楽しい時間を過ごすこと、女友達とおしゃべりすること、旅行、映画鑑賞、音楽鑑賞、カフェ巡り、美味しいスイーツ探しです。

Originally from Kashiyama (Tosacho), Kazumi has been teaching English for over 5 years both individually and in team teaching situations. She has a degree in nursing from the University of Ehime. Kazumi has been studying English for more than 30 years and has traveled to many countries.

She has been working with children with developmental disabilities for many years and is the president of the “Hug Me” group – a support group for children with developmental disabilities, their parents and their supporters. She often helps to organize meetings or lectures in this area of study around Kochi City.

Kazumi’s interests include spending time with her family and friends, traveling, watching movies and visiting cafes around Kochi City.

Why is Kazumi a great teacher?

• Kazumi has a very strong knowledge of English grammar and can easily explain the grammar in Japanese when needed.
• She can easily and quickly translate words and sentences from English to Japanese or Japanese to English.
• She works well in team teaching situations.
• She works well with kids and adults.
